Adhered To An Angel

Character:
Angel Devil

The Angel Devil exhaled a weary sigh as he slumped into his chair, the weight of another long day spent hunting devils pressing heavily against his shoulders. With a slow, indifferent motion, he reached down to peel away his sock, craving nothing more than the cool relief of freedom for his aching feet.

As the fabric slid away, his gaze drifted downward, settling on the pale underside of his sole. There, he suddenly noticed that pressed firmly into the creases of his skin, were several tiny, frantic shapes… He recognised that they must have been victims of the “Insignificance Devil”. He wondered how they even got in there in the first place, but decided not to dwell too much into it.

The heat radiating from his skin was likely stifling for them, a sweltering, inescapable tomb that had been absorbing their life force with every step he took. He knew that after hours of being smothered under his heel, their time was rapidly hemorrhaging away. They were already fading, their struggle becoming nothing more than imperceptible twitches against his flesh. A flicker of pity stirred in his chest, though it remained muted by his usual apathy. Rather than letting them linger in a state of a slow agonizing pain, he decided it would be kinder to simply finish what had already begun.
