“Bernadetta! Oh thank goodness!”
It was a comedy of errors and strange happenings that saw Lady Edelgard von Hresvelg the size of a lowly insect. The grand and sprawling halls of Garreg Mach had become a monolithic world she had been wandering for the better part of an hour; but at long last she’d found someone who could help her. Bernadetta was an easy one to find, always sequestered away in her room as she was, but Edelgard had never imagined the unassuming young archer could tower above her so. She thanked her good fortunes it was a friend who had found her like this.
The monolithic young noble was wide-eyed and owlish, blinking as though she couldn’t believe the little woman waving for her attention. “E…del….?” Her words came out hesitantly, a booming weight behind them as she crouched over Edelgard. Her shock started to fade after a few more moments, replaced by…a smile.
“Bernadetta?”
Edelgard had never known her friend to smile with such a strange look in her eyes. Something about it put her on edge, but before she could truly react Bernadetta reached for her. Thick fingers swept up the pale-haired noble with ease and brought her high into the air. Before the grand and enormous visage of Bernadetta.
“Bernadetta! Stop messing around and help me undo this spell!”
Her smile widened.
“Nuh uh.”
“What…?!”
“With you gone, nobody can make me leave my room anymore!”
Is that what she was thinking about? Bernie you can’t be serious!”
Oh, but she very much was. Her eyes carried a dangerous light as though she didn’t even see Edel as human anymore. Enormous lips spread before her shrunken form, thunderous words rattling her body. “I could hide you, but just to be safe…” The world was a blur of motion as Bernadetta turned and took a few steps, Edel unsure what it all meant until she saw. It.
“What…is that…?”
Resting beneath her was a strange and obviously carnivorous plant. Edelgard couldn’t remember the last one she’d seen with teeth. Or a salivating, awaiting mouth that was opening in anticipation.
“Say “aaaahh” Chompy!”
“Wait, you mean?! No! Bernadetta no! You can’t be serious-AAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!”
The screams came to a sudden, unceremonious end. Whether she knew it or not, Bernadetta had saved Fodlan from imminent war; and, more importantly, she could finally stow away in her room in peace.
